Cissy Houston to Perform Whitney Tribute at 2012 BET Awards

BET Awards 2012Whitney Houston’s mother Cissy will take center stage at the 2012 BET Awards when she performs a tribute to her late daughter, who passed away at age 48 in February. A source told the AP that Cissy will be joined by “a few top divas.”

Cissy is listed on BET’s official site as a performer, along with the likes of D’Angelo, Rick Ross, Meek Mill, Wale, Usher, Chris Brown, Big Sean, Nicki Minaj and 2 Chainz.

Cissy is an accomplished singer who worked as a backup singer for Elvis Presley and Aretha Franklin. She won a Grammy Award in 1996 for Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album. Cissy and Whitney even teamed up in the ’80s on the duet ‘I Know Him So Well.’

Who would you like to see perform with Cissy to pay tribute to Whitney? Jennifer Hudson and Jordin Sparks are two of the obvious choices. How about bigger names like Beyonce, Mary J. Blige or even Aretha Franklin? Or perhaps Mariah Carey, who once dueted with Whitney on ‘When You Believe?’

Find out who sings with Cissy Houston when the 2012 BET Awards air on July 1 at 8 pm. Indisputable badass Samuel L. Jackson hosts.
