Duff McKagan hosted an awards show last night. No, really!
Who knew there was a Classic Rock Awards show? The concept seems odd – how exactly do you give awards like “Band of the Year” if all the music is old? – but the 2012 Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards did indeed take place last night in London, with Pink Floyd, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Rush and Nikki Sixx taking home top honors.
Rock and Roll Hall of Famers ZZ Top won the Living Legend Award at the ceremony thrown by Classic Rock Magazine and hosted by McKagan of Guns N’ Roses. Pink Floyd captured on Reissue Of The Year for “Immersion” and the Film/DVD Award for “The Story Of Wish You Were Here.”
Skynyrd won Comeback of the Year (and performed live for 30 minutes during the ceremony), Rush won Band of the Year, Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue won Showman of the Year, and Anthrax won the Metal Guru Award. Scroll down for the complete list of winners.
The magazine’s editor, Scott Rowley, said, “You would never know it from listening to the radio or watching TV, but while you were all getting excited about Psy and Fun and Nicki Minaj, it’s actually been a great year for new rock music. Classic Rock is proud to keep on supporting rock music, classic and brand new, and the Roll of Honour has become an office party for the rock industry.”
