The Grammy Award for Best Musica Urbana Album was created in 2022 to reward Latin music that fits the definition of “urban.” Generally, this means that the music is influenced by hip hop, dance, reggaeton, Latin pop, and other genres, blending together to form a vibrant, unique sound.
Albums are eligible for this award if they are not otherwise eligible for the other Latin categories, such as Best Latin Pop Album, Best Tropical Latin Album, Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album, or Best Regional Mexican Music Album.
Bad Bunny won the first Best Music Urbana Album Grammy in 2022, and he has remained the top winner and nominee in the category so far, with three wins among four nominations.
Karol G became the first female artist to capture the honor in 2024.
This award has been presented on the main Grammy broadcast on multiple occasions, rather then being relegated to the pre-show.
