The nominees for the XIII Latin Grammy Awards were announced this morning, with Dominican singer-songwriter Juan Luis Guerra leading the way with six nods, while recognizable names Shakira, Pitbull, Ana Tijoux, Mana, Alejandro Sanz, Daddy Yankee and Prince Royce also picked up nominations.
Making sure to honor every single artist they possibly can, the XIII Latin Grammys feature 10 nominees in the big categories like Record and Album of the Year. If you’re thinking that’s way too many, you’re right. But the Academy apparently wants to err on the side of being too inclusive rather than excluding anyone important.
Shakira scored a bid for Best Long-Form Music Video for “En Vivo Desde Paris.” Tijoux’s “La Bala” is up for Best Urban Album, while Daddy Yankee’s “Lovumba” is a contender for Best Urban Song. Pitbull is one of five songwriters nominated for Best Urban Song for “Crazy People” by Sensato. Prince Royce’s “Phase II” earned recognition in the Best Tropical Fusion Album category.
