Lovers of old-school R&B music who may have been turned off by the hefty ticket price of the inaugural Fool in Love Festival starring Lionel Richie and Diana Ross have reason to cheer. The festival recently slashed the ticket price for its one-day event on August 31 at Hollywood Park on the grounds adjacent to Sofi Stadium.
When the festival was announced in February, tickets initially went on sale for $275 (fees included). That quickly increased to $325, after the allotment of “tier 1” tickets sold out. But the price never went up after that, and the fest website continued to display “tier 2.”
As recently as July 17, as confirmed by the Internet Archive, the ticket price was still $325 per person. However, at some point since then, the website was updated to show single tickets available for just $200 each, a price which remains on the official festival website.
Multiple tickets are even cheaper: A two-pack of tickets costs $350, and a four-pack goes for $600, or just $150 per person.
That massive price drop should be welcome news for anyone who found the old price tag too high. Asking attendees to pay more than $300 for a one-day fest was always going to be a tough sell, no matter how incredible the lineup is.
And this truly is an incredible lineup, featuring no fewer than 15 Rock and Roll Hall of Famers. In addition to Richie and Ross — can we please get an “Endless Love” duet? — the bill includes icons Gladys Knight, Dionne Warwick, Al Green, Chaka Khan, Smokey Robinson, Nile Rodgers & Chic, George Clinton, Kool & the Gang, the Pointer Sisters, Morris Day & the Time, and many more.
The festival did not make an announcement about the price reduction on social media or its website, but it stands to reason that the event probably has plenty of tickets remaining. As concert ticket prices have spiked this year, many tours have been scrapped or drastically reduced due to poor ticket sales, from the Black Keys’ planned arena tour to Jennifer Lopez’s arena dates to the Troye Sivan and Charli XCX pairing, which has reported slumping sales in many markets.
It’s peculiar that festival organizers wouldn’t want to publicize the price drop in order to sell more tickets, but perhaps they don’t want to upset existing ticket holders. A Facebook group set up by ticket holders already has a discussion thread with a handful of disgruntled ticket buyers arguing that they should receive a refund for buying the more expensive tickets.
It’s unclear whether $200 will remain the permanent ticket price from now up through the event on August 31. The festival is run by C3 Presents, the same folks who produce Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits.
Assuming the event takes place as scheduled, Total Music Awards will be in attendance to provide coverage here and on X/Twitter.
