The Logo Network’s 2012 NewNowNext Awards, which celebrate pop culture figures of interest to the gay and lesbian community, took place on Thursday, April 5. The show won’t air until Monday, April 9, so if you don’t want to read about spoilers, click away now.
For the rest of us, here’s the inside scoop on what went down. Kelly Osbourne hosted the program. She also won an award (*eye roll*), tying with Andrej Pejić for the Beyond Style Award. We love Kelly, but it’s kind of embarrassing when award shows pander to the host by giving them awards like this.
The music award was the one we had our eyes on. The “Brink of Fame” award had some steep competition, with rapper Childish Gambino and dance-pop star Jessie J, but it was newcomer Neon Hitch who took the prize. Neon’s win was very cool, since she’s been getting some bad reviews in recent months. Personally, we’ve been on her bandwagon since her 2010 Lollapalooza performance.
Glee’s Naya Rivera took the “Cause You’re Hot” award, while GCB took the “TV You Betta Watch” trophy, beating out our choices, Portlandia and Savage U. In another music-related category, fan websites for Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert lost the Superfan Site Award to a Vampire Diaries site.
