Since its inception in 1986, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has inducted more than 400 bands, musicians, solo artists, producers, songwriters, and record company executives.
Yet somehow, they’ve still left hundreds of other deserving acts out of the picture. From old-school rock acts like Devo and Styx to modern pop hitmakers like Mariah Carey and Pink to hip hop stars like Snoop Dogg and De La Soul, numerous influential and commercially successful artists are still waiting for the Hall call.
Which omissions are the biggest Rock Hall snubs? Let’s count down our Top 100 list of solo artists and bands not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
If your favorite artist isn’t here, maybe they’re not eligible yet. See the list of artists who will be eligible from 2027 through 2035, including artists like Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Imagine Dragons, and Kendrick Lamar.
Note: Most online lists of “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame snubs” heavily emphasize classic rock bands, but we support the Rock Hall’s recent embrace of pop, R&B, rap, country, and other genres that were previously overlooked. The Hall is also making an obvious effort to induct a lot more female acts to make up for its preposterous gender imbalance. So our list reflects these realities.

The 10 Biggest Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Snubs
Before moving to the full Top 200 list, let’s review the credentials for the 10 acts we consider the most egregious Rock Hall snubs to this point.
To be clear: This list represents the artists who we believe should get inducted, not who actually will be inducted.
1 The B-52s
The B-52s bridged the gap between punk rock, new wave, and what would become alternative music, with a unique style that sounded like absolutely no one else.
And they inspired John Lennon’s late-career comeback! They’re one of the LGBTQ artists who deserve induction into the Hall. Read our B-52s analysis.
2 Mariah Carey
Now that Whitney and Janet are in, there’s no excuse for keeping out Mariah. Her 19 #1 hits, unmatched vocal range, and songwriting success should be more than enough for voters to enshrine her in the Hall. Read our Mariah Carey analysis.
3 Smashing Pumpkins
The Smashing Pumpkins found that perfect mix of critical and commercial success in the ’90s, scoring numerous MTV and radio hits, from “Today” to “1979” to “Tonight, Tonight.” It’s surprising they haven’t been nominated yet.
4 Coldplay
A lot of people like to rag on Coldplay, but they’ve been making hits for 25 years, and they’ve successfully evolved from their Britpop roots to stay relevant as popular music has changed drastically since they emerged.
No band with their catalog can rightfully be excluded from the Rock Hall.
5 Diana Ross
The lack of respect for Diana Ross is stunning. Not only is Ms. Ross a Rock Hall snub, she’s a Grammy snub too, having been nominated 13 times without a win. What gives?
She’s an all-time legend, with dozens of pop, disco, and R&B hits. She was inducted with the Supremes, but her solo work deserves recognition too.
6 The Smiths
The Smiths probably won’t get in anytime soon, since singer Morrissey has made some regrettable public statements in recent years.
But the music that he made with Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke, and Mike Joyce was some of the most creative and affecting rock music of the 1980s. Read our Smiths analysis.
7 Weezer
Now that the Dave Matthews Band has been inducted, Weezer stand as one of the few rock bands in history that has pumped out hit singles for 30+ years without earning Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.

8 Garth Brooks
There was no bigger rock star in the 1990s than Garth Brooks, who sold out stadiums and released Diamond-selling albums. Yet somehow, he’s not even in the Rock Hall discussion. He tops the list of country artists who deserve induction.
9 Devo
Devo were oddballs who never quite fit in with the mainstream, yet they managed to inspire such important and diverse figures as John Lennon, Trent Reznor, Nirvana, and Weird Al Yankovic. They’ve already been nominated three times. Hopefully, the fourth time is the charm. Read our Devo analysis.
10 Daft Punk
EDM has ruled popular music for much of this millennium, yet ’70s German innovators Kraftwerk are the only real electronic band currently in the Rock Hall.
When the Hall is ready to change that, Daft Punk should be first in line. The helmet-wearing robot duo recorded incredibly influential late ’90s tracks like “One More Time” and “Around the World,” then scored a 2013 comeback as a dance-pop act with “Get Lucky.” Read our Daft Punk analysis.

IMO, The Monkees are the biggest snub of all. They have an amazing catalog of diverse, great music, and all members are multi talented.

Someday, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will honor The Best Band from East LA, Los Lobos. The band has been together for 50 years. Same members, amazing music, while staying true to our culture.
They are very good. And if they do that, hopefully the Bodeans one day.
No band during the 70’s and 80’s stole more live shows than the J. Geils Band. They pumped up crowds for every major rock band on tour, and could make a crowd forget who the headlining was. Stadiums were on fire during their shows. Until they and Boston, REO, and Stix get some love the Rock Hall can go Fuck themselves
J. Geils has been up 3 times which I read is all the nominations allowed, and they never put them in.
They were an incredible live band w/ one of the greatest front men of all time, Peter Wolf. Mick Jagger even admitted he couldn’t keep up with him….
All people have to is listen. to “Blow Your Face Out”, up there with a small handful of live albums ever recorded…

I am stunned when I read through all of the acts that aren’t inducted yet in the R&R HALL OF FAME. Hey voters on the committee that decides who is and is not worthy to make the cut:My personal wish is for Paul Revere and the Raiders…I know cue the laughter and derisive comments. Or…I bet you were one of those fans of theirs in the 60s who had their pics on your bedroom wall and screamed at their concerts. Yes I did, so what? NEXT…those goofy Revolutionary War getups they wore…yeah, so did the Beatles and The Dave Clark 5 at first. NEXT…the only reason they were famous at all were the tv shows they were on in the mid 60s. Oh, you mean Where The Action Is, Happening ‘68 and It’s Happening. Yeah, that was the main way you got to see bands outside of concerts back in the day. Plus one other thing you might have forgotten. All of that happened because of one man who was inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame in 1993 – DICK CLARK. And THAT WAS THE YEAR THE RAIDERS SHOULD HAVE GONE INTO THE HALL TOO. Dick would have loved that!!! Why do you think Dick Clark signed them in the first place?? He knew they were tearing up venues in the Pacific NW. They were a great live band and he needed that for his WTAI show. Have you also forgotten PR&R were the first rock band SIGNED TO COLUMBIA RECORDS?? That is ROCK AND ROLL HISTORY!!! The hall is supposed to be about people who made people feel happiness, joy, frustration, anger through their music. It’s not too late. Please induct them. They deserve that honor.

Your list of snubs snubbbed Robbie Williams. I know he’s not huge in the US but he’s a legend in the UK and in their Hall of Fame. SMH that he’s not even mentioned.
Did you forget The Jam? The band is genuinely a top 15 snub on my list. They even feuded with the legendary Sex Pistols in the UK punk rock movement’s cream of the crop.
While I agree The Buzzcocks are also a snub, it’s crazy to me to see them and not The Jam.
The New York Dolls, & Iron Maiden, are not in….but Dolly Parton is?? REALLY.
so basically this was a place for people to just list their favorite bands. i haven’t seen anyone explain why their choices belong in the hall of fame. just lasting for a long time or being known is no reason to be in the hall. the R&R hall of fame is already a joke. they might as well just let everyone in.
Halls of Fame are not supposed to be for great players/bands/singers/golfers-whatever hall of fame it is.
Halls of Fame are supposed to be for the ultimate in that area. not just great, but beyond great. Prince? of course. someone mentioned The New York Dolls and Iron Maiden. why? give reasons why they should be in? because i dont think they should be. i see no reason for them to be.
Iron maiden is an legendary band and should be 100 percent in the rock and roll hall of fame being a big part of heavy metal and rock music in the 80s and 90s and have had very big hits with the trooper , run to the hills, fear to the dark etc it’s like saying Metallica and Black Sabbath shouldn’t been in the rock and roll hall of fame
The New York Dolls were a direct template for The Ramones and Sex Pistols. They were a huge influence on Morrissey. They 100% deserve to be in the Hall.
What about the Marshall Tucker Band? That’s a no brainer. I have no respect for an institution that says it’s Rock and Roll then adds pop music stars to their induction. Gimme a break, that crap is not music but jingles.

Little Feat. It’s insane they are not anywhere on this list. But Enya is? Not everything is about #1 hits or popularity. It’s about quality rock and roll.
I totally agree…but they are included on the list of snubs. Based on how many R&R artists have stated they were influenced by little feat and how many have covered them speaks volumes to setting the standards. They should at least be in the top 10 snubs and get their nod.
Biggest former snub that finally made it: Deep Purple. They only got in after a pressure campaign from other major artists including Metallica, Rush, KISS, Toto and Guns ‘N Roses.
The name doesn’t fit the inductees. It should have been called the Entertainment or Music Hall of Fame. Not the Rock n Roll Hall. A large percent of the artist people listed above have little or nothing to do with Rock or Roll. My biggest snub which is beyond belief is FOGHAT. If FOGHAT isn’t included that tells me everything I need to know about the organization. I did visit the hall one year when I was in Cleveland. Very disappointed. Waste of time.

They have got Merle Haggard, Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, George Jones, and Kris Kristofferson as potential snubs and go on to mention 200 other acts without one God Damn mention of two of this worlds most popular 100 million sales acts who are the Carpenters and Olivia Newton-John. Not to mention that Karen Carpenter is the very first standout female drummer in popular music history as well.. They did mention Three Dog Night, REO Speedwagon, Tommy James and The Shondells another 100 million sales band, and the very popular and influential Johnny Rivers. The Rock&Roll HOF has become a cesspool and a bad joke..
WOW! Some of the names that have been inducted vs some of the names that have not just don’t make sense as some not inducted have phenomenal track records and numerous major hits. Is this “contest” rigged or are those who have voting power paid off to cast votes for insignificants instead of those most worthy or most credible??
I mean we all have our personal choices but there some names on the 100 snub list that logically, we can agree from an artist standpoint, should have already been voted in that corrupt R&R Hall of Fame.

WOW I see so many bands listed here that had almost no cultural, influential, or creative impact or legacy on music.
Yet I never see Cocteau Twins listed. They single-handedly invented dream pop, which led to shoegaze, both of which have been a huge influence on so much music since the 80s and 90s. The impact of that is felt in far more things than most people can imagine, and it was the work of Cocteau Twins that led to it. This alone should get them in.
Also, Joy/Division/New Order should get in, at least they got nominated twice now, but part of the problem form what I’ve heard is that some voters have no idea why they are listed together because they are unfamiliar with the bands. If they are not educated, put them in through the back door. Siouxsie and the Banshees need to get in next. They influenced a bunch of people, too.

The Scorpions have to be the biggest snub; they have been turning out rock tunes, heavy metal, speed rock, blistering rock ballads, with guitar, drum and vocal scores that are unmatched by any band other than Zeppelin. They’ve been doing it since the late 60’s; and even unplugged in their recent Vegas shows, the guitar work by Schenker and vocals by Klaus were incredible. This is the kind of band that the Rock Hall was created to showcase; unless the Rock HOF is just a moniker to get you in the door. The Rock HOF without the Scorpions is no better than the MLB HOF without Peat Rose. You’ve left out some of the greatest talent.

Whoever runs the R&R HOF committee is out of touch with ROCK MUSIC.
The Scorpions almost single handedly put electric guitars into the hands of hundreds of thousands of future guitarists when Rock You Like A Hurricane and Still Loving You were released. I taught several people just in my own neighborhood to play guitar in my mid teens, and everyone wanted to learn Scorpions tunes in the mid-80’s.
Along with hard hitting tunes like The Zoo and No One Like You earlier on, they were a huge influence.
The fact that they formed in the early 70’s, are still at it and sound in great, is a tribute to their talent and after that amount of success is a massive snub.
Metallica was influenced by the Scorpions. Most dual guitar rock/metal bands worth their salt were.
It is absolutely Shocking to me that this group did not only not make ANY of the snub lists, but they did NOT get mentioned in ANY of the comments either.
Mott the Hoople – AND Ian Hunter in his solo career.
That tells me about the general lack of knowledge of people about the Rock & Roll world of the 1960’s-1970’s, when all of today’s music was being formed across Europe and the U.S.

Now that Mariah Carey has been snubbed by the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame for the third time in a row and who knows whether she will join artists like Chic, Chuck Willis and The J. Geils Band who have gotten so many nominations for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame but have yet to be inducted or Chaka Khan who was nominated many times combined with Rufus and solo but eventually got inducted at least through the musical excellence category which is a great achievement to have, she should take over the No. 1 position from Joy Division / New Order as the most snubbed artist on the list. Maybe, once she releases her secret grunge album Someone’s Ugly Daughter or announces a farewell tour, that would be the the time that the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induct her why they try to search for many other artists who have yet to be inducted.
Yes, I will have to update our snubs list, but most likely the B-52s will move up to #1 with Mariah at #2. It sounds like the voters just don’t like her for some reason. She was never as beloved as Whitney. She will get in for sure, but it may take another five years or so.

It looks like the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame found a huge female star of her era and genre to place on the ballot many times to possibly induct that star eventually by the end of the 2020s. Besides Chaka Khan, Donna Summer had to wait many years until she passed away to finally get inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Hopefully, they do not play around with Mariah Carey this way.

Do artists getting special exhibitions or making a stop to perform at events throughout the year get them closer to be nominated or inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame? Paul McCartney And Wings seems to be very prominent lately on the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame’s Facebook page. However, only The Beatles and Paul McCartney are inductees but not his group Wings that includes his late wife Linda McCartney that is kind of a long time snub as well.
I don’t know if there’s evidence that doing events with the Rock Hall helps, but it certainly can’t hurt. I could see Wings getting inducted sometime in a side category. There are several overlooked backing bands to induct. The Revolution (Prince) should get consideration as well.
The English Beat/General Public deserve to be in consideration. I believe Dave Wakeling’s Teardrop guitar is on display, however.
The Guess Who is top snub on my list. 60 million+ albums sold; 11 albums ALL charted. #1 song & Album ( American Woman);14 Top 40 hits in the US; 40 in Canada.
Currently on a ‘Taking it Back’ tour ( Cummings & Bachman headlining ) playing to sold out shows, with Don Felder ( Eagles) warming up.
How can that success be ignored ?
Joe Jackson, Harry Nilsson and The Monkees are all on your list, but way too far down the list – they all should be in!

The late Bonnie Tyler who was nicknamed the female Rod Stewart with her signature husky voice and nominated for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance in 1984 and 1985 is a snub. Another husky voiced singer from America, Kim Carnes is also a huge snub. They both should have been inducted already by the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Hopefully, the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame committee members will realise their impact and induct them in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame through the Musical Excellence or Musical Influence categories for the 2027 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

How about Aussie Rock and Roll pretty boys Rick Springfield and Michael Hutchence of INXS . Of course, Tommy Shaw and Styx deserved induction years ago. Leading ladies include Linda Ronstadt who crossed genres from pop to pop / rock . country . country rock , Latino etc. Linda was the highest paid female singer of the 70s. Other prominent female singers of the 70s include Diana Ross, Olivia Newton -John and Donna ” Disco Queen ” Summer. Also, the massively popular worldwide easy listening brother / sister duo “The Carpenters “! Karen Carpenter was the first female drummer to become famous . In addition , Belinda Carlisle deserves consideration for her solo work including ‘ Heaven is a Place On Earth ” ! Back up bands including Prince’ s ” The Revolution ” featuring Sheila E. ( one of the Top 20 drummers in Rock history
Why is GRAND FUNK RAILROAD not even mentioned.This band went through
hardships primarily with the management. They sold out every stadium they performed
in. After they were released from the management they had to prove themselves all
over again. They had a several number one hits and continued to sell out concerts.
This band is being totally ignored. They came in late sixties and early seventies. I
am also glad that the Shan-gri-las were mentioned and they came out in 1965. One
the first early girl groups to paved the way for other girl groups.
